Write prompts the way you talk to a colleague

You do not need a formula. Say what you are teaching and who it is for. Then keep asking until the result fits your class.

What to include

Explain the task as you would to a capable colleague. A good first message covers these seven things.

  1. What you are teaching
  2. Who the material is for
  3. What students should know or be able to do
  4. What resources you have
  5. What constraints you are working within
  6. What you want Claude to produce
  7. How you want the response organized

Then keep going

The first answer is a draft. Select a phrase to copy it, then paste it as your next message.

Five prompts to start with

Choose one, fill in the blanks, and copy it. Blanks you skip stay in [brackets] so you can fill them in after you paste.
